What better way to kick-off New York Fashion Week than a Marissa Webb ss16 show. Marissa Webb will be busy this NYFW with both her line and Banana Republic, where she is also the creative designer, showing in New York. I admit I started following Webb on Instagram for her effortless androgynous style, but it’s her personality and witty captions that kept me intrigued and coming back for more. This Marissa Webb ss16 was my first time attending her show and true to her masculine mixed with feminine style there was plenty of lace, leather and double-breasted suits in the collection. There was a utilitarian vibe in the collection and at the same time there was a delicate soft vibe. Webb credits her grandfather’s days in the military in the 1950s for inspiration. A photograph of her grandfather in his uniform next to her grandmother in feminine dresses resulted to her mixing bold colors, soft fabrics, and military khakis in the Spring 2016 collection.

As the models sauntered down the runway with flowy lace dresses, khaki combos and vibrant reds and yellows you could picture this photograph of Webb’s grandparents that she drew so much inspiration. With my love for more vibrant colors, I was more drawn to the red and yellow dresses in the collection, but then again who doesn’t want to look androgynous chic? And those leather pieces had me drooling too. There is something very New York about Marissa Webb pieces; it’s like you wear her pieces and immediately feel like you’re a “bad-ass New Yorker” if that makes any sense. She did mention that she also draws inspiration from living and working in NY, so I am not overreaching with that last comment. We got to sit in a Q&A with Marissa Webb herself, and she’s the nicest, sweetest being in person as you could imagine. So ahem, yes, I’ll be geeking over a pair of these cargo pants before the new collection becomes available.

xoxo,
