Before heading to the Chromat ss16 fashion show, I knew we were in for a unique treat from what I had seen from previous Chromat shows online. The show was much more than a unique treat, hello, it was fashion meeting technology in the most literal form you can imagine. Chromat’s chief designer Becca McCharen has primarily focused on structural pieces that can easily integrate with technology, which brings us to the ss16 show. Alec Wek, yes I did cheer when I realized it was her, opened the show wearing the Chromat Aeros Sports Bra powered by Intel, inspired by wind, air, and flight. For this collection, Chromat collaborated with Intel Innovations team to create garments that respond to the wearer’s body temperature and environment, cool right? The opening Aeros Sports bra was a normal looking sports bra with an illuminating light in the middle of the chest; the bra is supposed to open up vents if it senses the wearer’s body temperature rising.

I have never thought science to be that chic at all until this show. Counting Madonna and Beyonce as their clients solidifies that Chromat is onto something. It’s one of those concepts you hear about and think “man, why didn’t I ever think of that.” All the athletic pieces that went down the runway screamed practical and intelligent. The showstopper was definitely The Chromat Adrenaline Dress powered by Intel. Get this, the dress, which according to the brand’s site was made of 3-D printed panels design extends out (think butterfly wings) when it sense the wearer’s adrenaline rising. So as I sat there, thinking I was really avant-garde in my Zara ripped jeans, I wished I could own that winged-like responsive dress. Something I never realized I needed in life but now do, a dress that would take on an imposing form whenever it sensed I felt threatened.

The upbeat models owned the technology almost better than they owned the runway. It was one of those shows that left me inspired rather than agitated to not fit into a size zero. Is it just me who thinks this is the future of wearable technology. I mean, yes, there is that Hermes + Apple watch, but when it comes to active wear, real wearable pieces that also look chic, Chromat is it.

I will try and post all the other shows we managed to cover over NYFW, it was a long week so please bear with us. Thank for stopping by and do check out Chromat, it is the cool, smart line worth knowing about, if not copping.

Thank you for the visit!

xoxo,
