If anything left me longing for fur, even more than before, it was the collective Fall / Winter 2015 fashion shows. Everywhere I looked, there was some fur-clad, long-legged model showing me what I was missing out on. I, my friends, suffer from the fear of missing out (FOMO), that plus I suffered from a cold torso this past few months, so I was going to miss out on owning a fur coat. I made the decision to go vintage shopping for one a few weeks ago, but the prices were far from vintage. There was no way I was going to shell out the big bucks for a new fur coat, although I did come dangerously close to doing so on a recent trip to Bloomingdales on a frigid day. Fast forward two weeks later, I decided to try my luck again at my favorite NYC vintage stores and low and behold everyone had their fur coats half price off, it was a fur coat sale bonanza! Too many options! It’s amazing what a little promise of ‘spring is coming’ will do to prices of winter clothes.

I walked into What Goes Around Comes Around in SoHo with major confidence after seeing their 50-percent-off-chalked sign. Looked around, tried on a few furs, played dress up, but couldn’t make up my mind whether I wanted to look like a pimp with a floor-grazing white mink or like a disco queen from the 80s with a shoulder padded fur number. So I did what one naturally does in a vintage store, asked what else was on sale and ventured the store. Then… there on a mannequin, away from the other furs, was a fox fur I had tried on months earlier, but at the time didn’t feel right about spending a full month’s salary on it.  I vividly remember that day, I walked away from that foxy baby fur, heartbroken. That same coat was now on the mannequin, in all its glory, only this time the glory was embellished by a 50-percent off price tag. Took a minute to regain my composure, tried it on again and that coat was mine.

The irony is I only got to wear the coat one day, before it got too warm outside to be wearing a so-cozy-warm fur coat. Oh, the fashion Gods can be so humorous or cruel, the jury is still out. However, I can’t tell you enough about how ready I am for the next winter, I am more armed than a mountain climber on Mt. Everest!

Happy Hump Day loves.
