I am taking a step back from all the hype of fall 2009 trends back to s/s 09.
The season was jazzed up with eerie to feminine trends and the designers were anything but shy in showcasing their creations. Most overplayed trend of s/s 2009 had to be the futuristic / apocalyptic / eerie trend.
I tend to be biased after my new found affection for Alexander McQueen and it’s no coincidence that the s/s 09 McQ’s show was liberally littered with futuristic looks.
Best games players range from Alexander McQueen, Viktor & Rolf, Maison Martin Margiela, Christopher Kane and Balenciaga. Just looking at these creations was like being a hoop scotch away from year 2090. The bold colors as well as neutral colors were used in this theme. Print was the default of the A. McQ show. Sharp and symmetrical edges were just toppings on the uber creative work. Almost bondage-esque dresses were reprised in this trend. When you wear the black body hugging-plasticky looking dress by Maison Martin Margiela you instantly become the nemesis of optimistic park avenue woman.
Who doesn’t want to be the rebel once in a while?
