Everywhere we look or read we are bombarded by articles or news bemoaning the failing economy. People are frantic with good reason of coarse and journalists are obligated to report on it. In hard times you want a form of unwinding and escaping it all, you need an escapism if you will. It’s in fashion I find this. My solace in the difficult time, but lately I have not found this peace in vogue, W, Harpers, Nylon etcetera. Au contraire, there are more mentions of the flailing economy in these magazines than in The Wall Street Journal (please excuse the hyperbole). Looking at beautiful dresses that I cannot afford, believe it or not, makes me forget how wall street has infringed my shopping habits. I want to read a fashion magazine that’s glized-up with chic clothes and accessories without being reminded of my hemorrhaging wallet. I have hope that one day all the economy talk will seem passé. But for now my penchant for fashion mags will restrain me from canceling my subscriptions, I just have to get better at SELECTIVE reading. Maybe meditating in the balmy spring weather will be my new escapism.
