The Maji Beach Boutique Hotel

The still beauty of the white sands of Lamu was an ultimate treat while in Kenya for two months. I’m still in disbelief time lapse while in Kenya, like really, where did the time go? Thankfully I have many memories of my time there including the short weekend stay in the quaint Kenyan coast of Lamu. Upon arrival to The Maji hotel, we were welcomed to what I imagine being a Swahili beach haven. We were walked to a common area by the pool to check-in where everyone simultaneously whispered a “wow” when we saw the unobstructed view of the Indian ocean. The sound of the crashing waves instantly melt away any stress or worry, teleporting you to a place I’m sure Brangelina would vacation.

After walking the grounds in utter amazement, I realized paradise on earth was a real thing. Suitably named The Maji (Swahili word for water), this exclusive boutique hotel is surrounded by a pool and has a private reserved white-sand beachfront. With only 15 unique bedrooms, the hotel has an intimate ambience with friendly and attentive staff. Everyone was super attentive, even the soldier (guard) was keen to chase the occasional over-friendly monkeys from trolling the grounds, that was actually entertaining to watch.

The pleasure of staying at The Maji Beach Boutique Hotel included a delectable mix of Swahili and western dishes, which were included in the rate. The hotel bar (Maji Moto) is famous for sensational cocktails that you can enjoy in the pool or on the large beach beds.

The Maji Beach Boutique Hotel is the best value for your money I have found in a long time. A small price to pay for a piece of paradise in Lamu, a price that includes fantastic food and transportation to and from Lamu Airport. Why I ever paid so much for other 5-star properties that delivered much less is beyond me. I am glad I discovered this little gem. I am now recommending this place to every and anybody I know who wants to visit Kenya. It would be unfair and selfish not to.

Have a great week.

xoxo,
