Here are a few words that cross my mind when I think of Tom Ford…err Mr. Ford: Sexy, grandeur, extravagance, retro, trendy, drama… That’s my seriously truncated list of words that come to mind when I think of the icon.

When I read that Mr. Ford was coming out with a women’s line, as any other fashion-gossip-addict, I was elated and curious. Right away the hunt for photos of his collect was underway, but to no avail, there were no photos to be found. In fact, word on fashionspot was Ford, in an anti-publicity tirade, had denounced online journalists / bloggers who put up fashion photos before the clothes are even made.“I do not understand everyone’s need to see everything online the day after a show,” he said in a Vogue interview. Well ouch that hurt… a bit.

As in any other highly anticipated confidential work, some photos of Mr. Ford’s work were recently by Vogue leaked and I devoured the article and photos in a panic in fear of them being taken down.I was immensely filled with joy by the few pieces I saw. The six-year hiatus from womenswear that Ford took was a creative retreat judging from his new line. The few pieces I saw were spectacular, very 70s glamour meets Daphne Guinness (that may take a minute to process).

His work at YSL was profoundly evident in the pantsuits’ clean lines and the dresses’ grown-lady feel.

Although Mr. Ford played a role in reinventing the trendy Gucci girl, by dressing many a ding-a-ling celebrities for the red-carpet, he now wants none of that. He wants his creations to be one of a kind, “to put something out that’s going to be in a store in six months, and to see it on a starlet, ranked in US magazine next week? My customer doesn’t want to wear the same thing she saw on a starlet!” Monsieur Ford laments in Vogue.

Here are the previews from Vogue via fashionspot.

The hair, fringes, pantsuits and prints are oh so Mr. Ford. When I receive this issue of vogue I will be grateful for the two-year subscription that I always beat myself up for agreeing to.

Enjoy.
