The effortlessly Brilliant photographer Bill Cunningham, who has captured candid moments of Manhattan fashion is the subject of a new documentary, Bill Cunningham New York. The pioneer street-style photographer has been taking photos of fashionable women in the city for decades. He is undeniably the originator of street style photos.
As a devoted Washington Post reader, I have to confess I’ve been guilty of picking up the New York Times only for Cunningham’s column and photos.
A few days ago my friend send me a BBM message about buying tickets to a Cunningham’s film, which I dismissed as a drunken message, since I hadn’t heard about the film. I figured I would ask her about it the next day at a sober hour. I found out this information was plastered all over the net. I’m thoroughly embarrassed not to have known about this huge cinematic release. Amidst the disaster in Japan and the unfolding Charlie Sheen saga I have been a bit pre-occupied, I do therefore pardon myself. The point is, now I know and I am here to spread the word.
The film opens on March 16th in NYC at Film Forum, and shows for only two weeks.
