Before there was Naomi Campbell there was Naomi Sims, a statuesque model whose enchanting beauty made her the first black model on the cover of Ladies Home Journal in 1968 and Life magazine in 1969. She paved the way for many black models such as Beverly Johnson, Naomi Campbell to name just a few. When I read about her on WWD I searched the entire web for her pictures and biography to the point of mania. I was semi-successful.
From mixing different blends of makeup to find the right match for her skin tone to bringing civil right issues to the fashion world, she is by far an icon who shattered the glass ceiling in the modeling world.
